Photovoltaics Electronics – Installation

Electronics is necessary to install a photovoltaic system on the roof of the house. This can be done either by a specialist company or by yourself. However, an electrician must be present at the acceptance in any case! How does the installation of electronics on the roof in detail?

If you want to install a photovoltaic system, you must always first install the electronics on the roof. This can be done by a specialist company or do it yourself, says Michael Struck of Elektro Hartmann GmbH.

At the beginning, one connects the individual solar modules electrically with each other.

There are two ways to do this, which differ depending on the PV system used:

  • Plug connections
  • Wirings

Plug connections are very easy to install, but even the wiring of the modules is not a big problem for experts. To do this, you need to open the module junction box and wire the individual connections together. The required cables should always be laid in the profile rails of the fastening system to achieve an optimum result.

The ventilation tile, which is placed underneath the PV system and replaces a normal roof tile, is used to guide the cables into the house. Here one uses an electrical installation pipe or an electrical installation smart. This pipe is carefully passed through the thermal insulation of the house. In any case, be careful not to damage the same.

Installation of electronics in the house

Having made the first step, now you need to install the electronics in the house. First, the solar cables must be routed to the DC main switch. But you can also use your own generator junction box for the PV system.

As a rule, cable ducts can be used for laying the cables. Nevertheless, the solar cables should be routed with the shortest possible path to the connection. The string lines must be connected directly to the main switch, whereby special care must be taken. Finally, care must be taken to ensure that the polarity of the wires is correct.

Furthermore, the DC main switch must be connected to the inverter, which is intended for the solar system. Important: Use DC cables for this purpose! DC cables are quite expensive, so the inverter should be installed as close as possible to the DC main breaker.

Also take into account that the inverter tends to fabricate certain noises from time to time during operation. So choose the location wisely. Also, make sure you have the right environment. Optimum room temperature, low humidity and good heat dissipation are required to ensure long equipment life.

Commissioning

Finally, the installation of the PV system must be connected to the public power grid. By law, this mains connection must be carried out by an electrician. The feed-in meter must be installed and the technical characteristics of the PV system must be measured. This is also recorded in writing in a commissioning report
